Wildlife Art by artist :- Barye, Antoine-Louis

(Sep 1796 - Jun 1875)

Barye, Antoine-Louis

One of the great Wildlife sculpters and painters of the French school, Barye was born in Paris. Like many sculptors of the Romantic period, Barye began as a goldsmith. He studied sculpture and painting, and was admitted to the École des Beaux Arts in 1818. While working as a goldsmith in 1923, he discovered his true direction, sketching animals from life then creating sculptures from the sketches.

He produced many animal sculptures, as well as animal paintings, and showed his true Romantic spirit in a sculpture of "Theseus and the Minotaur" in 1847. Towards the end of his life, he became famous, and well-regarded by the art movements of the time.
