Wildlife Art by artist :- Oudry, Jean-Baptiste (Mar 1686 - Apr 1755)

Oudry, Jean-Baptiste

Known particularly for his paintings of animals, Oudry was a Rococo painter, engraver and tapestry designer in France. His father was a painter and art dealer, and his mother came from a family concerned with the engraving business.

Oudry started by painting portraits, he later turned to painting the still-lifes, animals, and religious paintings for which he is better known. Oudry painted on commission for the King, producing mainly artworks of hunt subjects, particularly hounds, which the king had him paint in his presense. Oudry made a lot of money helping revive the tapestry industry in France, and was often sent examples of rare birds to draw.
