How to buy wildlife art.

The two main reasons wildlife art is purchased are 1) to hang in home or office, 2) as an investment.

Original Wildlife art is the most expensive but also the best investment, and can be purchased direct from the artist, or through galleries and dealers, some of whom specialize in wildlife art. Mediums for original wildlife art include oils, watercolor, and drawing, and also original prints sold in editions, such as photographs, etchings, lithographs or silk-screens.

More affordable, yet still sometimes purchased as an investment, is wildlife art as a numbered Limited Edition giclee print signed by the artist. The Giclee scanning and printing process produces superb archive quality prints which can last more than 150 years without fading, if stored correctly. One of the finest wildlife artists alive today . . . Bateman, sells his art as Limited Edition Giclee prints, although this practice is somewhat controversial.

Far less expensive, but also of far less quality are posters of wildlife art, produced by the standard printing process used for magazines etc. These are sold in unlimited editions, and have no value to the investor.
